New Books!

I just ordered 7 new books. Three are midwifery-related. The others are parenting-related. The midwifery books aren't my first but the parenting books are. It is interesting to be feeling ready to read such books. I have decided that most, if not all of my reading (as soon as I finish what I'm working on now, Chasing the Dragon by Jacki Pullinger) should be limited to those two topics for a while. I look forward to getting into the parenting books and processing what I need to process as I go along. Here's a list of what I ordered:
  • Anatomy & Physiology for Midwives by Jane Coad & Melvyn Dunstall (2005)
  • Understanding Diagnostic Tests in the Childbearing Year: A Holistic Approach by Anne Frye & Rhonda Baker (2007) - I heard that this is a must-have. At the clinic we have the last version which is now 10 years old. I've been waiting for the next edition which finally came out last October. Other "essentials" for midwives are Anne Frye's other books, Holisitic Midwifery and Healing Passage. A 2nd version of Holistic Midwifery is not yet available. Healing Passage (5th ed) is out of print and a 6th edition is currently being worked on. Healing Passage is an excellent book on suturing techniques. We have the whole Anne Frye library at the clinic but in all the old editions (10 years old). I will buy the others when the new editions come out.
  • Wise Woman Herbal for the Childbearing Year by Susun S. Weed (1985) - This one is quite old but a classic that I need to have a copy of. Many other books written about herbs in pregnancy refer to Susun Weed's Wise Woman Herbal Series
  • Adoption Parenting, Creating a Toolbox, Building Connections by Jean MacLeod and Sheena Macrae (2006)
  • Toddler Adoption: The Weaver's Craft by Mary Hopkins-Best (1998)
  • Parenting with Love & Logic by Foster W. Cline and Jim Fay (2006) - After reading reviews on this one I realize I may not agree with everything in this book but it came hightly recommended and so I figured I could take what I like out of it.
  • A Mother's Heart: A Look at Values, Vision, and Character for the Christian Mother by Jean Fleming - This one also came highly recommended to me.
